Led by Catherine Thrasher-Carroll, director of the mental health program at Skorton Center for Health Initiatives, this program will use a realistic film scenario to facilitate discussion about signs of a student struggling emotionally. Suggestions on how to talk with students in distress as well as how to gauge the severity of the situation and where to find assistance for students will be discussed. Participants will be given tools and information to help them successfully navigate mental health situations. There will also be a discussion of common concerns making it difficult to reach out to others in distress and how to overcome potential barriers.
