The Cornell community is invited to watch the award-winning documentary film, Picture a Scientist, chronicling the groundswell of researchers writing a new chapter for women scientists. Biologist Nancy Hopkins, chemist Raychelle Burks, and geologist Jane Willenbring lead viewers on a journey deep into their own experiences in the sciences, ranging from brutal harassment to years of subtle slights. Along the way, from cramped laboratories to spectacular field stations, we encounter scientific luminaries – including social scientists, neuroscientists, and psychologists – who provide new perspectives on how to make science itself more diverse, equitable, and open to all.

The film is available for viewing from April 16-19.  On April 19, from 3:30-5 PM, a panel discussion with experts, including Cornell faculty members and staff, will discuss the film and answer audience questions.

Panelists:

Hector Aguilar-Carreno, Associate Professor, Department of Immunology and Microbiology
Lauren Branchini, Deputy Title IX Coordinator for Investigations and Assistant Director for Institutional Equity
