12/11/17 Notice and Respond: Assisting Students in Distress

December 11, 2017
12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Cornell Health, Ho Plaza, Tang Conference Center Rooms 127C and 127D, Ithaca, New York 14853

This one-hour-long, interactive bystander education program for faculty demonstrates:

  • what to look for that might indicate that a student is struggling emotionally
  • how to effectively talk about it
  • how to gauge the severity of the situation
  • where to find assistance and support for various situations

Using a realistic filmed scenario, facilitated discussion, and a review of campus resources, participants are given tools and information to help them successfully navigate mental health situations they may find themselves in as members of a university campus community. Participants also discuss common concerns that can make it difficult to reach out to others in distress, and how to overcome these potential barriers.

The workshop will be facilitated by Catherine Thrasher-Carroll, director of the mental health program, Skorton Center for Health Initiatives. Please register by December 6.
