Tenure and Promotion

Assistant Professors at Cornell are encouraged to familiarize themselves with “A Short Guide to the Tenure Process,” a document covering the requirements, complexities and timeline of the tenure process.

Section 4 of the Faculty Handbook details the key policies, protocols and best practices related to tenure and promotion at Cornell.

OFDD offers an Associate Professor Orientation biannually. The orientation is geared towards recently tenured faculty. Topics include understanding the promotion process and criteria, keeping on track post-tenure, managing service and work/life demands, understanding your spheres of influence: selecting leadership opportunities (locally, nationally, and internationally). For more information, contact ofdd@cornell.edu.

Cornell faculty in their 3rd year should be familiar with the Dean of Faculty Guidelines for Reappointment.

To learn more about the promotion to full professorship process read section 4.2 of the Faculty Handbook
