2023/2024 Schwartz Research Fund Application Guidelines

Required Materials

Application:
Maximum three pages, not including CV, current/pending/anticipated follow-up funding sources, and level of support.

  • Brief descriptive title
  • Justification
    • This statement should make a case for why the grant is needed, including how the grant will benefit the applicant professionally in ways that would otherwise not be possible.
    • Emphasize the new direction of the proposed research that is not currently supported by other funds. How is this project different from currently funded projects?
  • Time of proposed activities for which funding is sought
  • Budget Summary (see template)
    • Equipment and faculty and technical staff salaries are not eligible; a wide variety of other expenses will be considered. Please include budget justification.
    • For those with significant remaining startup funds, please include an explanation why the new funds are required.

Additional Materials:

  • Current and Pending Support, anticipated sources of follow-up funding
    • Remaining funds from start-up package
    • Current and pending federal and other support – submit abstract and aims (the abstract and aims are not part of the 5-page CV limit).
    • identify follow-up funding for which you may apply, assuming that the data from this grant supports such an application.
  • Applicant’s CV
    • Limited to five pages in length
    • Includes a list of all publications in the last five years and up to five other significant publications
  • Mentor or chair’s letter of support (maximum two pages)
  • A brief statement describing your experiences and/or approaches to fostering research and mentoring in support of the diversity, equity, and inclusion goals of the university as embodied in its founding principle: “any person…any study” and its core value of belonging.
